Here they go again, my favourite Flickr photographers - Rose and Olive. This pic is lovely & strange I'm sure you'd agree.
But what is it with this intrigue in naked women, and is it art? In this weeks Guardian Germaine Greer, in response to a new exibition on Naked Potraiture, explained why women artists started taking their clothes off for their art .

after the birds outside the apt. say hello

Mhambi has long been enamoured with Olive & Rose, their pics and their prose. Allot of what they do is gorgeous and unashamedly naughty. Lovely.
there's coffee in a ceramic mug next door at the happy lobster cafe, santa claus drawn across the handle in magic marker. evaporated milk in a tiny silver pouring cup next to a saucer of raw cane sugar. there's a flat screen t.v. above the door playing only commercials sponsored by the tourism board of the government. caves and jungles and photos of impossibly shiny buses fly into and out of the silent screen.
a seven person group of australians pass around a digital camera and yell at one another, shifting naturally until a finger hovers above the shutter, and then smiling, their eyes wrinkling at the sides, someone accidentally blinking, someone else caught mid-mouth asking if there's enough light. two women hold handtowels behind the bar and stare at bottles of coconut rum while they talk, one of them touching her hair with the towel, the other one so very, very still.
a barefoot man in a straw hat sells bags of papaya and folds a basket of baby dresses on the sand street outside and waves at me when he realizes that i'm staring, when i realize that he's staring too.

The Free Way.

Mhambi likes to think that the existencialists were right. What we do with our lives are to a great extent up to us. It's very exciting, but scary, all this responsibility for living.
And be careful not to get caught by the Highway patrol.

At last Mhambi was transferred to Google's brand spanking new blogger, complete with categories! Now you can easily navigate my blog and find out I'm obsessed - amonst other things - with Identity politics, and General named De la Rey, what the Brits (or should that be the English) think of Afrikaners, the potential of technology and the web and Flickr sirens Rose and Olive.
Speaking of which, hows this for yet another gorgeous photo by the girls from Texas.

Here's another pic from Mhambi's favourite Flickr artists. This one is a self portrait by Olive. I had to rip this one (probably due to Flickr's selective restrictions on nudity).
Mhambi also learnt that Olive loves artist William Kentridge, which just shows how right I was when I latched onto them. These girls have taste.
O Thou to whom the musical white spring
offers her lily inextinguishable,
taught by thy tremulous grace bravely...
Though from whose
feet reincarnate song suddenly leaping
flameflung, mounts, inimitably, to lose
herself where the wet stars are softly keeping
their exquisit dreams -- O Love! upon thy shrine
of intangible commemoration,
i spill my bright incalculable soul!
-- e.e. cummings

You all know Mhambi has a thing for Olive and Rose, the delectable photographers that suddenly dissapeared from Flickr. Well Mhambi got a really nice email from them in response to some friendly advice. And the good news is they will be starting their own site. Although unfortunately its not up and running yet.
Good morning, Mhambi. Yes, flickr deleted us without even a moment's notice, throwing away everything we'd posted, including the writing, which went unsaved unfortunately. But when the pieces fall apart, you put them back together in a new way, a stronger way, a more interesting way hopefully. so, where is your neck of the woods? You know we're not exactly opposed to finding good excuses to travel. And we're good houseguests. We've been known to bathe our hosts in lavender and bubbles, for instance.

Mhambi would like to register his displeasure. His favorite Flickr members Tetheredtothesun have disappeared, including hundreds of gorgeous (and titillating) photos and all from Flickr. But Mhambi expects he knows what happened. See Flickr is owned by Yahoo!
Now Rose and Olive certainly did not get the boot because their pictures were too risque. Nope, there are many pictures on Flickr far more revealing and with less artistic merit, than these two delicious gals' pics.
Nope, one suspects that some manager (with an MBA no doubt) read on their flickr pages that Olive and Rose were starting a paid for site at Nerve, thus soliciting business to a rival! How can they! The outrage!!
Now only an old style manager with no conception of how new media works would try and keep his audience from wondering to other websites, and destroy good content and allot of good will to boot. Yahoo! will always play catch-up while their new media savvy staff have to play second fiddle too a bunch of managers that still don't get the net.
